  • I have an ear infection, what can I do to ease the discomfort and pain?

    ear infection
    fast_bird94 asked:

I have an ear infection and the pain/pressure is unbearable. Any home remedies would be appreciated. I have already gone and seen a doctor and all she gave me was Floxin ear drops. I have taken Oxycodone, that worked for a little bit until it made me puke. Ibprofen 800′s seemed to kind of work too. So did heat. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Please help.
Oh my there are so many good answers I don’t know how I will chose the best. Maybe I will start trying some remedies and pick the one that works the best.
There are so many good answers. I have been taking plenty of showers and soaking my ear in hot water. I have been using a heating pad. I think the main thing I need to do is quit playing with it as suggested by one of the people who answered. The pee thing is a bit out there, but it sounds like one of those bizzare things that really do work. I just don’t know how I would get the pee in my ear and plus I’ve been using prescribed ear drops which I don’t want to screw up. I have heard of the smoke thing too. I remember seeing a cone thing in a store a while back that you light on fire and then blow out and it funnels the smoke into your ear, I just can’t find it now. But the most common answer seems to be heat in oil and putting that in there with a q-tip so I might try that inbetween ear drops. Well thanks for the great answers everybody. I greatly appreciate your help. I kind of suck being able to only chose one best answer, especially with so many great responses.

  1. I would have to say heat and Lortab 7.5 would work the best for me.
My mother in law says to but cooking oil on a cotton ball and heat it up in the microwave and place in ear. I tried it but it didn’t work for me, just got a really oily gross ear!!!

  2. try a drop of baby oil and put a small piece of cotton ball in the ear to keep the baby oil form leaking out…

  3. Hey, I know, have someone hit you in the stomach, I’m sure you won’t feel it then!

  4. Clean it out in the shower with warm (not hot) water. Then when you’re ear is wet; lay down onto it so anything inside the ear sort of comes out. It’s also good to be on one of those medicines like you said. And one of those things that you fill up with water… put one of those under your pillow to help.

  5. Most importantly… stop messing with it!!!

It’s so easy to just poke at it and stick your finger in there, but take it from one who has had many ear infections, RESIST THE TEMPTATION.

Take the maximum painkillers available and try to sleep if you can. If not, I find that being in the open air eases the pressure.

  6. try a heating pad…. dont sleep with it though,,,,Hope that you feel better,,,, Good Luck

i swear by this!!.. ive done it several times. Put a drop of pee in it. the ammonia in ur pee easies the pain.. and also makes it go away. ur pee is steril when it is straigh out of ur body so it want harm u!!

  8. buy a syringe and fill it with warm (not hot) water. flush your ear out with the syringe 4-5 times to loosen up the ear wax. Once that is out, try some home remedies:

  9. This sounds far out but have someone you know that smokes blow smoke in your ear and then immediately put some cotton in it. I used to have really bad ear aches when I was younger and my dad always did this. Believe it or not but it worked.

  10. I heard if you put lukewarm olive oil in you’re ear for a few minutes with a cotton ball to hold it in, it should help.
