What are signs of ear infection in baby with tubes?
3 Commentsgirly asked:
My son had terrible ear infections so at 8 mo. old he got tubes put in his ears. Now he is 10 months old and I am concerned that he may have an ear infection due to his low grade fever (100.8 F) but he isn’t screaming like he used to when he had infections prior to tubes.
What are the signs of ear infection with a baby who has tubes? Are they different from a baby without tubes? Is it common to get infections when one has tubes in?

Is he rubbing his ears, or does he get noticeably more fussy when you lay him down? Those are two symptoms that are indicative of an ear infection whether you have tubes or not. If the fever doesn’t go away by the end of tomorrow, take your son to see a physician.

The main sign usually of an ear infection when tubes are involved is drainage from the ears even a little. You know him best and if you think he might have one I would call your Dr. asap.Good luck.

They can get an ear infection if the tube gets blocked by wax or anything else. My daughter got 2 ear infections while she had tubes and both times, she had the same symptoms as she did before she got the tubes. If you think that it’s an ear infection, chances are you are right. You know your child and the symptoms they exhibit.
I am having a similar problem with both of my children. I know they have an ear infection, but I have to wait 3 days to take them to the doctor b/c if I take them when I know, they just have the fluid and the doctor can’t see the infection. With my daughter 3 days after I know, she starts throwing up. Neither of my kids have ever had a fever with the ear infections and my son has just started pulling on his ears when he has one.
Good luck. I would take your son to the pediatrician either this afternoon if they are open or on Friday
