  • How long does Tinnitus last from an ear infection?

    ear infection
    Richard M asked:

I’ve been informed by my doctor that I’ve got a Viral Ear infection (Not bacterial yet, so no damage to the ear drum or behind the drum, just an inflammation in the ear). The most disturbing sympton I’m getting is the constant ringing. Does the ringing clear up with the infection? If not, how much longer does it take for the ringing to subside?

  1. maybe a second opinion is a good idea. Some medications can cause the tinnitus but so can inflammation of the inner ear.

  2. i had a SEVERE ear infection ,,,i had blisters on my ear drum pop,,,18months later i still have hearing problems,,i have been to a ENT, and numerous tests and treatments. i didnt have ringing in the ear but i had the version of thumping/hissing. this last time he did a steroid injection straight into my ear canal. it helped ALOT. i have inflammation in my ear and noone knows why or where it came from. the steroid is a new treatment and the dr said he dont know how often i would need it and to let him know if my symptoms reappeared. Id ask your dr for more information
