   Cotton serves the purpose of keeping ear medicine in and keeping cold air out. I don’t think it actually helps with pain.

   Well it works for me, but then my doctor gave me drops to put in, so the cotton acts as a barrier to keep the drops in.
   That and it keeps the air out.
   I don’t know, you can try it, might work for you too, made me feel better.
