How do you know if baby has ear infection?
9 Commentsliz o asked:
My baby is being fussy and i cant tell if he’s overly tired or if somethings wrong. No fever. We’ve been in and out of the car and its pretty cold out we’re in Mn. My friends baby was recently diagnosed with an ear infection and now i’m starting to think maybe mine does too.

Your baby will cry a lot and most of the time pull his or her ears and most of the time have a fever

My little one had an ear infection when she was 4 weeks old. I noticed first that one eye was getting crusty then she started pulling at the ear on the same side. She fussed a bit but not much. Never ran a fever.
The Dr said it is always best to call and go in because if you don’t catch it in time, there is the possibility that the babies ears could get damaged. They don’t always show signs or symptoms until they have a full blown ear infection.
It never hurts to see a Dr.

ear infections are so trickey….my son had one at 6 months and i never knew it until i went in for his 6 month “well” visit…he had no fever no pulling of the ears and not really fussy…but non the less had an ear infection…he did have a little bit of a runny nose…. is your baby drinking okay from the bottle? does he cry more while he is lying down?….

Depending on how old your baby is, many times you’ll be able to tell if it’s their ears that are causing discomfort because they’ll rub them. However, if your baby is less than 8 months old it can be difficult to tell because they have yet to develop the dexterity to rub their ears. Exhaust all your options, if your baby is well rested, fed, clean and dry, and still not happy, chances are she is not feeling well and it is very likely it could be an ear infection.
If your baby is young, an ear infection detector may be a good investment! Here’s a link to some…
Good luck!

well the way a baby can get an ear infection is laying the baby flat on it’s back n yeah the cold air can bother it too…the way to tell they have n ear infection is there fussy n they pick on there ear like trying to scratch it.

Your bub could be teething sweetie. How old is he? Generally though if they have an ear infection, it will start possibly with a head cold or just a runny nose. It’s this runny nose that will often cause ear infections because fluid gets trapped in the ear and cannot escape. Once this happens bub will then start crying and maybe even pulling at their ears. Often they are accompanied by a fever though as is teething so it is hard to distinguish the 2. Because he is fussy too, he may just be teething. If you are concerned though, it certainly wont hurt if you take him to the doctor for a quick check up, always better to be safe than sorry. My little girl had one and I honestly thought it was just teething but turned out to be a perforated ear drum, poor little baby, so I am always mindful now when she is teething that it’s not an ear infection. Good luck and all the best. Happy New Year xx

If he’s pulling at his ear a lot, it could be an infection. How old is he? Could it be colic? When my son was around 4 months, he was real fussy and I suspected it to be colic. Of course by the time the doctor’s office could get him in (a week later), he seemed fine. Just overly fussy.

Usually he would have a fever if he has an ear infection, he could just be getting the start of a cold if he’s been around your friends baby.
