How do you tell if cat has ear infection or needs cleaning?
4 Commentscharlie1138 asked:
My cat has a very small scratch near it’s ear and I thought her ear was infected at first so she was scratching at it..but now I think she might just have a blockage or something rather than an infection. How do I know whether to just clean her ears or if it is more serious and she needs to go to the vet? Please don’t just say “take her to the vet!” if I thought it was at all serious I would have already taken her.. and I wouldn’t be asking here.

If it smells funny or looks pussy or swollen, it’s probably infected. But if it looks like it’s healing with no puss or anything yellow coming out of it and it smells normal, she’s probably fine. I hope she’s okay, I would hate if one of my 2 cats was hurt in any way!

aside from taking your cat to the vet for an exam, i think the only way that we, as humans would be able to tell is by unusual reactions of your pet. If your cat is shaking it’s head as if it has ear lice, or if it fails to respond to you. Other than that, take it to the vet.
hope yr cat feels better.

It could just be from fighting or something like that but it could be canker mights (not sure if that is spelled right) but it is a might that cats get in there ears and you get a powder to put into there ears to clear it up unfortunately you wil have to take her to the vet to find out. So keep an eye on her for a few days and if it doesn’t clear up then please take her to the vet. good luck.
