Is this normal for this to happen after my baby has an ear infection?
13 CommentsBetrayed and Insane asked:
My baby had an ear infection and was given Omnicef. 2 weeks later he was rechecked at the doctor and the doc said his ears were good, except that one still had some fluid. But still my baby ALWAYS is pulling at the ears and holds them constantly, while he is just sitting there or drinking his bottle. He doesnt have a fever but his head feels warm all the time. What does that mean? Could this mean something other than the ear infection? Like something worse?Popularity: 14% [?]

It might just mean the medicine didn’t take.
As an adult I found out that my ear infections come as a result of allergies. It isn’t good to do a needle-stick allergy test on a baby, obviously but maybe see a doctor that specializes in allergies to offset the ear infections from the source?
Best of luck. I’ll keep you both in my thoughts.

I’ve had ear problems for many years.
I’d get a 2nd opinion and let the doctor know about your concerns.
Sometimes an ear infection is difficult to diagnose. -

I’d try a different doctor, because ear infections can lead to deafness. It doesn’t sound like anything worse but you should have a doctor look at it again.

with this type of problem, I would suggest your baby not be fed milk at all. it creates more mucous in the system and he doesn’t need it if he’s fighting upper respiratory/ear problems. try soy milk instead.
of course you want to relieve any pain, but I feel strongly that we overuse antibiotics for conditions that aren’t bacterial but viral in origin. for his ear, there are medicated drops. sometimes simple olive oil, heated slighted and applied with a little dropper, should help. the body usually heals itself if given the chance.

This may sound strange, but it is no joke. Maybe your baby just discovered his ears. I had the same thing with my daughter and I kept taking her back to the doc to have her ears checked, After the fifth time of me being told she didnt have an ear infection, I realized she was just playing with her ears. Their ears are fun, they are shaped funny and they are hanging off of their heads, it is like a new toy, thats all .So you dont have anything to worry about.

My son did the same thing – and his pediatrician said it can be the fluid drying up behind the ear drum and when it does it can crakle, or itch, or just make things sound funny, thats why he was ALWAYS grabbing his ear. It was also something new to him, pulling on his ears. But, hopefully that is all it is and will clear up soon!

it could be that he’s just playing with his ears
it could also be a recurrence of the infection, especially since the doctor saw that there was still some fluid.
some kids get pretty constant ear infections. if you’re concerned, just bring him back in for another ear check. you might need a new antibiotic.
is he sleeping badly? that was always the main clue in my kids.
