Neither of my babies have ever had an ear infection (they were exclusively breastfed.)

One is almost 4 and the other is 6 months, not one ear infection.

Did you know there is a vaccine for ear infections. My 10 year son had them all the time when he was an infant. They usually out grow it around 2 years.
My 7 month old has had the the vaccine and has never had an ear infection.

My son had a double ear infection at 4 months along with bronchitis. It was really hard to get rid of the ear infection. The doctor had to keep changing his script cause nothing was working. I actually got one around the same time; that was also really resitant to medication.
I know a lot of people told me he would probably always get ear infections and would need to get tubes in his ears. He has not had any problems since; he is now almost 8 months. I can't say for sure but would like to hope that they won't be a re-occuring thing.

I think I just read a study that said formula-fed babies get ear infections way earlier, so if she's formula-fed she's normal! No worries! It doesn't mean she'll get sicker or get them more frequently.

If she caught a cold or got a runny nose, it could of brought on the infection. So it really has nothing to do with her young age.
As i'm sure your Dr. explained they are caused from fluid sitting in the canal. A babies ear canal does not have much of a slant for the fluid to drain easier, that changes with age. She may need tubes in her ears if she keeps getting infections. It is a very common thing. My girls never had to have them, tho. The Dr. told me that they are a candidate for tubes if they end up with infections once a month or so. Try not to fret to much, if she needs tubes later, it is a really quick procedure (surgical). But it may not totally end ear infections either, just make them less frequent.
my oldest daughter got her 1st ear infection with her first tooth, and all 3 of my girls got an ear infection every time they were teething.

Just a note, not every child can be breastfeed. 2 of my girls were tongue tied & could not. Only 1 could be. Yes breastfeeding is wonderful, but remember as a parent you have to do what is best for both of you. And even my daughter that was breastfeed got ear infections.

Hey, don't worry if you child gets a ear infection. Its actually very common amongst little children. Since there ears are smaller, its easier for the (I forgot what its called) to get blocked more easily. You can always go see a doctor about.

I have four children and none of them ever had ear infections until well after their first birthday. I also never had any of them in daycare. My little sister got her first ear infection about a week after her first daycare experience, ended up with tubes. That is probably sorta irrelevant though because the Dr.'s said the reason some kids get chronic ear infections has to do with the shape of their inner ear. I would make sure the daycare is doing the proper amount of cleaning on a daily basis. I worked in the infant room of a daycare and we changed the sheets daily, scrubbed all surfaces with disinfectant and sterilized all toys daily too. Also proper hand washing and disinfecting of the diaper changing area after each diaper change.
