    Sam asked:

It has been over a month that my 6 month old baby has had an ear infection. The doctor gave her antibotics for 5 days which did not work. She was then given Moxifloxacin and it did not help. My baby picks, and pulls at her ears and does not sleep like she used to before the infection. How long does it take for an ear infection to cause permanent hearing loss? Thank you for anyone that can help. I am worried about her losing her hearing.

My 13 month old has/had a ear infection. Her Dr. prescribed her ear drops and an oral antibiotic. The drops said instill 1 drop into both ears every 2 hours. And the Oral antibiotic was to be taken for 5 days. I gave her the ear drops every 2 hours except for over night to allow her to sleep through the night in peace. And I gave her the antibiotic for the 5 days like stated. With this going on for a whole week (5/6) days do you think the ear infection would be gone by now?

I took my son to the doctor today; he has had a fever since yesterday. I thought he might have an ear infection, and sure enough, I was right. I just thought, I bet that is what it is. But, he had never tugged on his ears or anything – just the fever. What I’m wondering is, how can you tell if your child has an ear infection? Any other signs I should be watching for besides ear tugging and fever?

This is usually the biggest sign that he has an ear infection and him tugging on his ears. Is him spitting up with an infection a sign of something else? Or is this normal? Anyone have experience with this?

I have a 14 month old boy. He has his first ear infection in both ears. What should I be doing to make sure I don’t aggravate it any further? Can I wash his hair, clean his ears, take him outside, can he play with other babies?

I have a 9 month old maltipoo. He has a black discharge in his ears. But it’s not like what you’d expect with ear mites (it doesn’t look like coffee grounds which I’ve read is common.) It smells really bad and no matter what I’ve tried at home I can seem to figure it out. I tried using rubbing alcohol like I do for my other dog but it just won’t clear up. My vet is out of town for the month so I can’t see him now. So is this ear mites or an infection? Is it something that should be looked at right away or can it wait till the vet is back at then end of the month? Anything else I could try?

I have a rainbow lorikeet who loves sneaking up behind me and sticking his inch-long tongue down my ear. For the last two days, the insides (deep-down) of my ears have been sore. It fluctuates – sometimes it hurts and sometimes it doesn’t. Could this be an ear infection caused by my birdie? If so, will it go away on its own? It would be great if somebody could provide a reference.

My baby had an ear infection and was given Omnicef. 2 weeks later he was rechecked at the doctor and the doc said his ears were good, except that one still had some fluid. But still my baby ALWAYS is pulling at the ears and holds them constantly, while he is just sitting there or drinking his bottle. He doesnt have a fever but his head feels warm all the time. What does that mean? Could this mean something other than the ear infection? Like something worse?
